Asia (IP): The Indian Foreign Ministry emphasized the need to expand its economic exchanges with Iran's Chabahar port.

Iran Press/Asia: The Indian Foreign Ministry said in a report to the parliament on Wednesday that Indian Ports Global Company has been responsible for shipping in Chabahar port in southern Iran since December 2018 and has so far successfully transported 500,000 tons of cargo in the port.

The development of the first phase of the Chabahar port is being implemented in cooperation with New Delhi and Tehran, added in the report.

The Indian Foreign Ministry also referred to the exemption of Iran's Chabahar port from US sanctions, noting that New Delhi had consulted with Washington over the matter and that the United States had assured the importance of the Chabahar port operations in providing key Afghan resources.

The Indian government increased its 2020-2021 budget allocated to the Chabahar Port Project twice as compared to last year's budget program presented to the Parliament.

The budget announced for the Indian Foreign Ministry allocates over $ 14 million for the development of Iran's Chabahar port.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, India, and Afghanistan signed a tripartite trade and transit corridor agreement on Chabahar port in Tehran in May 2016, signed in the presence of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

Indian officials say the country will connect to Central Asia and Afghanistan via the Chabahar port of Iran.
