The Islamic Republic of Iran opened a marine route from Khorramshahr Port in Western Iran to Basra Port in Iraq for the commutation of Iranian Arbeen March pilgrims.

Iran Press/Iran news: A piloting trip also was carried out to test the route, so that the Iranian pilgrims would take part in the great Arbaeen march, transferring 230 passengers to Iraq's Basra.

The Iranian people travel to Iraq by bus, train, and airplane and now the marine route is ready to serve the pilgrims.

The marine route between the two countries was opened after 25 years.

Each year, a large number of people throughout the world come to Iraq and form a grand gathering of the world who walk to reach Karbala to commemorate the Karbala event.

Arbaeen, or the 40 days after Ashura, is the commemoration of the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson Hussain, who was martyred by the army of Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD on the 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
