Deadly US air raid in Afghanistan

Some residents and members of Logar Provincial Council have said one civilian was killed and five others were wounded in a nighttime US military operation in the province.

Iran Press/Asia: The residents said the operation was conducted in Babus village on the outskirts of Pul-e-Alam City, the provincial capital. The residents said women and children are among the victims.

The government has not commented on the report, but former President Hamid Karzai in a statement condemned civilian casualties in Logar and called for an end to airstrikes which according to him often claim civilians’ lives, the Afghan media reported.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, Fawad Aman, in a phone call said an investigation has been launched into the incident.

UN Office in Afghanistan, issued a report focusing specifically on civilian deaths and injuries, announcing that 1,500 civilians were killed or wounded in Afghanistan in the month of July as a result of war, terrorist attacks, roadside bomb attacks, etc.

The US and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of combating terrorism and providing security, but since then, insecurity, terrorism and drug production in Afghanistan have increased dramatically.
