Iranian Defense Minister in a telephone conversation with Kuwait, Qatar and Oman defense ministers said that Iran is committed to the security of the region, especially the Persian Gulf.

Iran Press/ Iran News: Speaking on phone to his counterparts, Brigadier General Amir Hatami emphasized that Iran has not refused to taken any measures to maintain naval security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Oman Sea.

"We believe that security should be provided by regional countries and that regional countries should engage in constructive dialogue on this issue," he added.

He came to the conclusion that the region should not be a place for the presence of non-regional powers.

There have been defense and coastguard meetings in recent days between Iran and the UAE, and Iran and Qatar.

Border guard commander, Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei and Qatar's coastal and border security assistant chief Lt. Col, Abdulaziz Al-Mohannadi have signed a maritime border agreement on Monday, Aug. 6, to ensure existing agreements on the matter signed by both nations.
