Indian ambassador to US, Vardhan Shringla ,

India's ambassador to the United States has said his country is facing a challenge to find alternative sources to Iran's oil, and that US sanctions against Tehran have hurt India's bottom line.

Iran Press/Asia: "The decision of the United States to stop issuing waivers for the purchase of Iranian oil has hurt India's bottom line and New Delhi hopes that Washington will show similar flexibility on issues New Delhi considers important," India's ambassador to the US, Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Tuesday.

He also added: "It was an important priority for the US to stop issuing waivers for the purchase of Iranian oil, but we expect the United States to show similar sensibility when it comes to our priorities."

According to an Iran Press report, quoting Sputnik news agency, Shringla reiterated that India's decision to comply with US sanctions is based on the importance of the US-India relationship. "Both sides need to recognize that," he said.

In November last year, US President Donald Trump's administration unveiled the full extent of its sanctions against Iran, which targeted its energy, banking, shipping, and aviation sectors. 101/211/216
