Trump actions towards Iran seems stupid, former US National Security Adviser says

The former US National Security Adviser described the Trump administration's attempt to use the 'snapback mechanism' as a foolish move.

Iran Press/America: In an interview with the Associated Press, John Bolton said that the action of the US President Donald Trump administration to use the 'snapback mechanism' has made this country look stupid in the international arena.

Following the failure of the United Nations Security Council to adopt a draft resolution to extend the arms embargo on Iran, and despite its withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the US tried to invoke the "snapback mechanism" for resuming sanctions, which legally is reserved only for members participating in the agreement, this is while the US is no more in the fold.

The US decision to try invoking the snapback mechanism was strongly opposed by members of the United Nations Security Council.

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the international agreement and announced the return of nuclear sanctions, in violation of Washington's commitments under the JCPOA.

Trump's move has drawn widespread domestic and international condemnation.
