Iran Press/America: During the meeting, Hussein Gharibi emphasized Brazil's high position for Iran as an emerging economic power and an important member of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) and stressed the need to maintain and enhance economic and political relations between the two countries after coronavirus crisis passed.
Brazil’s First Vice President Hamilton Mourão for his part confirmed the Iranian side’s pragmatic and long-term view to the two countries’ economic ties, saying that in the post-corona world, the countries must get prepared to face the changes.
Stressing the important position of Iran in today’s world, the Brazilian First Veep described Iran as a country enjoying one of the richest ancient cultures of the world.
Gharibi submitted a copy of his credentials to the Brazilian Deputy Foreign Minister Otávio Brandelli, on March 28.
Foreign ministers of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) have called for the cancellation of the US sanctions that have hampered some countries’ efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Many countries and international bodies have urged the United States to lift sanctions on Iran that is fighting with the nationwide outbreak of the coronavirus. Washington not only has ignored these calls but also imposed a new round of sanctions.
Back in November 2018, Former Brazilian President Fernando Collor de Mello asserted that his country is determined to develop bilateral ties with Iran in areas of economy and environment.
Fernando Collor de Mello, who is currently serving as the Chairman of the Commission on Foreign Relations and National Defense in the Senate of Brazil, made the remark during his meeting with Iranian Economy Minister Farhad Dezhpasand in Tehran on November 12.
He went on to say that Brazil enjoys high capacities and the potentials for promoting a relationship with Iran.
