Iran Press/Iran news: "It is expected that Foreign pilgrims commute via Shalamcheh border reaches 300,000 this year," Mahdi Mahmudi said during the visit of Shalamche border crossing in Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran on Wednesday.
He also added that most foreign pilgrims of Arbaeen who travel from Iran to Karbala in central Iraq are from 6 countries; Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, and Bangladesh, Iran Press reported.
Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
Pilgrims travel miles on foot to reach the shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala to perform mourning rites.
