Tehran (IP) - Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Iran is concerned about the possibility of Turkish military entrance into Syria.

Iran PressIran News: The seventh round of the Astana Summit was held on Tuesday evening in Tehran. Considering the sensitive situation in which Syria is now in and the possibility of a new conflict in the border areas of Syria, efforts were made at the meeting to help the path of developments in Syria and assist the country to be away from war and militarism and on the political path of resolved issues so that an agreement would be reached.

The foreign minister said: "We hope that these recommendations, which were emphasized by the heads of countries participating in Astana Summit, will be taken into consideration by the officials of the friendly country of Türkiye, and that Türkiye and Syria will pass this stage well."

According to the Iranian diplomat, the statement released following the Astana Summit indicated the success of this meeting in sensitive regional conditions. The issues which were the focal points in the Summit included the crisis in Ukraine and the crisis in the field of energy and food security.

He said: "Regarding Syria, the presence of armed and terrorist groups in some areas of this country is a cause of concern for us and our allies in the region. We used the opportunity of the tripartite meeting to take a step forward in the issue of the withdrawal and cleansing of terrorist and armed groups from Syria and the return of security across the borders of Syria by maintaining the territorial integrity of this country in the hands of the army and armed forces of this country."

Amir-Abdollahian stated: "I stress the importance of maintaining territorial integrity and respect for Syrian sovereignty, and we emphasize that the resolution of the remaining issues in the field of terrorist conflicts in Syria and some of the concerns that Turkey has about the presence of some groups in Syria should be resolved through political means. Fighting terrorism and protecting the rights of the people of this country, far from foreign interference, are at the top of Iran's priorities.

The Iranian foreign minister emphasized: "We express our concern about the possibility of Türkiye's military entrance  into Syrian territory. Last night, an attempt was made to resolve the concerns of the Turkish authorities regarding the security of the common border between the two countries."

Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs called the presence of the US in the eastern of the Euphrates a major problem of the region.

Amir-Abdollahian went on to stress that the US has expanded its presence in the eastern Euphrates region  under the pretext of countering terrorism.

Amir-Abdollahian called the eastern Euphrates the most fertile area in the region which is home to the important sources of energy for Russia.

Amir-Abdollahian then called for the unconditional withdrawal of the United States from Syrian soil.

He also said that the Syrian armed forces and the Syrian army are well qualified to defend Syrian territorial integrity. 

We do defend sovereignty, security of Syrian nation: Syrian FM

Thanking Tehran for hosting the Astana Summit, the Syrian foreign minister said: "We are ready to defend the sovereignty and security of our nation."

Attending a joint press conference with Hossein Amir Abdolahian, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Faisal Meqdad said: "I am very happy to be in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and President Bashar Assad asked me to convey his greetings to the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the country's President Ebrahim Raisi."

The Syrian foreign minister added: "My presence in Tehran after the Astana Summit was not far off, and I would like to emphasize that we are satisfied with Iran's efforts to make the final statement of the Astana Summit on the territorial integrity and independence of Syria.

The Syrian diplomat said: "Being in Syria is not beneficial for Türkiye or other countries. During the joint cooperation, the economy of Syria and Türkiye grew, but interference in internal affairs and sending hundreds of terrorists to Syria prevented this process."

He said: "Today, we discussed various issues and the issues happening in the region. The presence of the US in eastern Syria creates danger, and we do not allow any party to enter Syrian lands."

Faisal Meqdad stressed: "There is no justification for depending on foreigners, and what is happening in the northeastern Syria contradicts the wishes of the Syrian nation."

Faisal Meqdad added: "Our nation is suffering from sanctions. Sanctions imposed on Iran, Syria, Russia, and China deprive them of their inalienable rights."

The Syrian official added: "Syria and Iran are with the Palestinian nation, but Israel is a country that does not want peace."
