Iran Press/Europe: Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a stern letter to High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, has warned that Tehran will not be intimidated by political pressures, describing the recent letter of the European trio of France, Germany, and the UK, to Iran as a violation of the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In his letter to Mogherini who serves as the coordinator of the Joint Commission of the parties to the landmark nuclear agreement of 2015, the Iranian diplomatic chief went through a long list of Europeans’ lack of commitment and shortcomings in meeting their undertakings under the JCPOA.
Zarif’s letter came after a joint demarche by France, Britain and Germany issued on Saturday warned Iran not to scale down its nuclear commitments, Etemad daily an Iranian newspaper reported quoted by Fars News agency.
Iran’s top diplomat reminded Mogherini that Europeans’ failure to deliver on what they promised to Tehran in numerous joint statements and meetings has entitled Iran to the right to reduce its obligations under the nuclear agreement.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has put into practice the mechanism envisaged in the Article 36 of the JCPOA from the very long ago,” he added, stressing that Tehran cabled many letters and warnings before considering the implementation of the Article 36.
He underlined that Iran is serious about defending its rights, including modifying its commitments under the JCPOA, underscoring that his country will not change its resolution because of political pressures and hypes.
The Iranian top diplomat affirmed that the only way to preserve the nuclear agreement was for the other sides to respect Iran’s rights and deliver on their commitments.
