Despite cold and rainy weather millions of Iranians from all walks life have braved snow and rain to take part in nationwide rallies marking the 40th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran Press/Iran news: Tens of Millions of Iranians have taken part in  nationwide rallies on Monday morning, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution across the country. In some cities such as Hamadan, Yasuj, Shahr Kord, Zanjan, many hundreds of thousands were on the streets despite heavy snowfall, freezing and bone-chilling weather.

The mass attendance of the nationwide rallies was particularly impressive this year because of the massive number of people who attended and the freezing inhospitable weather in many Iranian towns and cities.

Iran Press showed pictures and footage of celebrations from other cities around the country and reported that millions of Iranians had attended events despite freezing weather.

The rallies commemorate February 11, 1979, when followers of the late Imam Ruhollah Khomeini ousted a US-backed monarch, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
