Iran Press/Europe: In a question and answer session at SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) on Wednesday, the Iranian foreign minister admonished the Donald Trump's administration for unilaterally abrogated the Iran nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
Zarif also urged the United States to rejoin the JCPOA, saying Iran is willing to help the United States to rejoin the nuclear deal. He said by leaving the agreement, the US effectively opened up a Pandora's box, Iran Press reported.
In further remarks, Zarif said the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly verified all of Iran's nuclear activities confirming that Iran has abided by and carried out all of its commitments under the JCPOA.
Zarif said: "If Iran breached JCPOA, other parties have the right to refer to the UN Security Council."
Asked about his best-case and worst-case scenario for the future of the world, Mohammad Javad Zarif said: "The worst-case scenario is obviously war. Everyone would lose in the event of a war breaking out. The only difference is the degree and amount of loss, but everybody loses."
"As far as the best-case scenario is concerned, I think if Europe acts independently of United States and honors its commitments under the JCPOA than that is the best-case scenario for me," he added.
"Security in the region can't be imposed from the outside," Zarif said.
The US to impede navigation in the Strait of Hormuz by sending warships, Iranian FM noted.
Persian Gulf Arab States can't achieve security by purchasing Western weapons, Zarif emphasized, adding, "No amount of foreign military presence can prevent insecurity in the region."
