New York (IP) - Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations said that based on the legal arguments of the majority of the members of the United Nations Security Council and the conclusion of its chairman, the United States is not eligible to use the snapback mechanism.

Iran PressAmerica: Delivering a speech to the meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations on Monday, Majid Takht-Ravanchi referred to the destructive measures of the US government in West Asia. He emphasized that the UN Security Council and its members need to be committed to their roles.

The meeting was held to review the annual report of the UN Security Council.

The top Iranian diplomat in the UN referred to the violation of Iran's territorial waters as well as its air space by the United States in 2019, noting that "this country continued its adventures against Iran to a extend that regional anti-terrorist heroes, like Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, were assassinated by the direct order of the US President, and while most of lawers recognized this act as the gross violation of the charter of the United Nations and international law, the Security Council remained silent."

Takht-Ravanchi also talked about the violation of Resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by the United States, saying the US government submitted a resolution to extend an arms embargo on Iran, but it was rejected by 13 members of the Security Council.

During the meeting of the UN Security Council on August 35, thirteen members of the Security Council, along with the head of this important UN body, emphasized that the United States has no legal ground to invoke UN Security Council Resolution 2231 because the US is no longer a member of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
