Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman has said if the signatory states to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCOPA) act as they did one year ago, Iran will take a more emphatic and stronger second step.

Iran Press/Iran news: Foreign ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, said when US withdrew from JCPOA, other sides asked us to stay committed to the nuclear deal and they assured us of their determination to preserve the deal, and to honour their commitments and obligations.

However, in the past year, other [European] signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, either are unable to or don’t want to honour their commitments under the deal. So we have taken the decision to incrementally reduce our commitments under the agreement, and we have publicly declared that, he added according to Iran Press.

Mousavi added: "In the second phase of JCPOA, we will evaluate the actions of JCPOA signatory states, and if they just talk and take no steps to honour their commitments, we will take a more emphatic and stronger second step."

Iran's measures in the second phase of JCPOA commitments are all legal and allowed under articles 26 and 36 of the nuclear deal signed in 2015, Mousavi said.

He added: "These two articles allow us to reduce our commitment under the deal if the other signatories to the agreement don’t observe their commitments. We have the right to do everything but we have decided the steps that we have taken, to be in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)."

Commenting on US President Donald Trump's stance regarding the downed US spy drone by Iran, Abbas Mousavi said: "Apart from what they decide or with any threat and aggression, we don’t let anybody violate our authority and undermine the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
