Iran Press/ Africa: Naeema al-Gasseer, the World Health Organization's representative in Egypt on Sunday, criticized the organization for its approach to the global vaccination process against the coronavirus, criticizing the lack of vaccines for less developed countries.
Naeema al-Gasseer noted that the World Health Organization's initial plan was to distribute 2 billion doses of vaccine to less developed countries through the COVAX mechanism, but this figure has been impossible to achieve because demand exceeds supply.
The representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt further explained that the goal of immunizing 10% of the world's population in September 2021, has not been achieved yet.
Naeema al-Gasseer also noted the lack of vaccines in the African continent, saying that so far only less than one percent of the continent's population has been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro recently accused the World Health Organization of not complying with the timely delivery of the Coronavirus vaccine despite receiving money in advance.
"If the World Health Organization does not deliver pre-purchased vaccines to the Venezuelan people, the Venezuelan government will demand a refund for the money paid eight weeks ago," Maduro said, criticizing the COVAX plan.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization recently acknowledged that while many countries have not yet received the coronavirus vaccine, rich countries have ordered additional vaccines for their vaccinated populations.
"The global gap in the development of the coronavirus vaccine is very significant," Tedros Adhanom said.
He added that Some rich countries have already ordered millions of extra doses of coronavirus vaccine, while some countries do not even have the equipment to vaccinate their health workers. 219
