Tehran (IP) - Iran has strongly criticized the United States for vetoing a United Nations resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, describing the move as "disgraceful" and saying that Washington is enabling Israel "to continue its carnage in Gaza and Lebanon with impunity."

Iran Press/Iran news: In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei lashed out at the US for blocking the resolution, which had gained overwhelming support with 14 out of 15 votes in the UN Security Council.

"This disgraceful veto not only marks another failure of the UNSC to uphold its Charter-based mandate but also serves as a US-granted license for the occupying regime to continue its carnage in Gaza and Lebanon with impunity," Baghaei wrote.

He further condemned the US action as a violation of international humanitarian law (IHL) and the Genocide Convention. Baghaei argued that the veto disregards the principle to "respect and ensure respect" for international law and renders the US complicit in "atrocity crimes."
