UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will make the appropriate answer for Iran's letter asked to hold the United States accountable for re-imposing sanctions, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters on Monday.

Iran Press/America: In reaction to the letter, Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, said Guterres supports JCPOA and will analyse the letter and respond it in near future.

"The irresponsible conduct of the United States necessitates a collective response by the international community in order to uphold the rule of law, to prevent undermining diplomacy and to protect multilateralism," Iranian UN ambassador Gholamali Khoshroo wrote in the letter.

The UN chief had hailed Iran’s reaction in the face of Washington’s pullout from the nuclear agreement.

In Feb. 21, Iran's ambassador to United Nations said, those sanctions which are related to political motivations of countries are unlawful and illegitimate.

Gholamali Khoshroo also said, UN Security Council should not overlook international norms and the Charter of the United Nations when imposing sanctions on countries.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has assured the Iranian nation of the government’s resolve to stand up to US threats, emphasizing that his team will do all in its power to resolve the economic problems caused by American pressure. 

Back on May 8th, President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the JCPOA despite objections from the other signatories to the accord.

Despite Trump's hostile policy towards the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said on 6 October, that the EU should remain strong on its' commitment to the historic Iran nuclear deal.

A first round of American sanctions took effect in August, targeting Iran's access to the US dollar, metals trading, coal, industrial software, and auto sector.

Second round of US sanctions removed under the 2015 nuclear deal, targeting the Iranian oil and financial sectors, reimposed on Monday November 5th.
