At least 54,677 Palestinians have been martyred since October 2023, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, as Israeli attacks escalate following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement.

Why it matters:

The staggering civilian casualties highlight the devastating toll of the conflict and raise urgent concerns over humanitarian access and international response.

The big picture:

Israeli attacks on Gaza resumed on March 18, following the breakdown of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in January. Since then, nearly 4,402 people have been killed and over 13,490 injured.

What he's saying:

The Health Ministry reports 70 bodies were brought to hospitals in the past 24 hours, with 189 more injured, bringing the total casualties to 125,530 since the war began.

“Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” the ministry added.

Still, four Palestinian journalists were killed and several others injured today, Thursday, after an Israeli strike targeted the courtyard of the Arab Baptist Hospital in Gaza City, according to reports.

Key points:

  • At least 38 people were killed in Israeli strikes today, according to medical sources at Nasser, Al-Ahli, and Al-Shifa hospitals.
  • Rescue operations severely hindered by ongoing violence.
  • The ceasefire collapse has led to intensified military actions, worsening civilian suffering.
