• US unilateral sanctions on Iran take force

Second round of US sanctions removed under the 2015 nuclear deal, targeting the Iranian oil and financial sectors, reimposed on Monday.

Iran PressAmerica: The unilateral measures that will hit oil exports, shipping and banks, are the most concrete result yet of US President Donald Trump’s controversial decision in May to abandon the multi-nation nuclear deal with Tehran.

Speaking to Fox News Sunday before the new sanctions went into effect, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said: "The sanctions that will be imposed are the toughest sanctions ever put in place on the Islamic Republic of Iran."

US President Donald Trump announced in May that Washington was pulling out of the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which lifted nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran in exchange for restrictions on Tehran's nuclear program.

Back in May, the US withdrew from the 2015 multilateral nuclear agreement with Iran

The first round of American sanctions took effect in August, targeting Iran's access to the US dollar, metals trading, coal, industrial software, and auto sector.

France, Germany, Britain and the European Union on Friday issued a joint condemnation of the United States’ move to place fresh sanctions on the Iranian economy, vowing to protect European companies doing "legitimate" business with Tehran.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei denounced US sanctions on Saturday, saying the United States has always been on the losing side of the 40-year-long war it has waged against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a meeting with a number of university and high school students, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out to the continuing challenge between Iran and the US and said: "The enemy made every effort against us, with a variety of actions. The US engaged in military, economic, and media warfare against us."

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has assured the Iranian nation of the government’s resolve to stand up to US threats, emphasizing that his team will do all in its power to resolve the economic problems caused by American pressure. 101
