Iran Press/ America: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has held videoconference talks with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric reported Monday that the UN chief called for an immediate ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Earlier, in a telephone conversation with his Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts, the Iranian Foreign Minister called on the two sides to show restraint, a ceasefire, and an immediate end to hostilities, as well as the start of negotiations within the framework of international law.
Clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh region resumed on Sunday morning and have so far left a number of people dead.
The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region began in 1988 and escalated into a military conflict in 1992, which resulted in the occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and seven neighboring cities by Armenian forces.
