Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh called for an immediate cessation of clashes and hostilities and the start of talks between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Iran Press/Iran news: Referring to the military clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Khatibzadeh said on Sunday: "Iran is closely and worriedly following the military clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia while inviting the two side for exercising more restraint."

He called for an immediate end to the conflict and the start of talks between the two countries.

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced Tehran's readiness to use all its capacities to establish a ceasefire and start talks between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh region resumed this morning (Sunday) with international mediators making no serious effort to prevent them in recent months.

Border clashes between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan last July also left dozens dead and wounded, with the two countries blaming each other for starting the clashes.

The Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia have disputes over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The two countries' dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region began in 1988 and escalated into a military conflict in 1991, with some foreign interventions escalating tensions.
