Tehran (IP) - The 28th G5 Technical Meeting on Women and Family is underway in a prestigious summit kicked off on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Tehran aimed at joint work for women and family health problems.

Iran PressIran news: Representatives from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan, and experts from WHO headquarters in Geneva and the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as a delegation from the WHO Country Office headed by Syed Jaffar Hussain, WHO Representative and Head of Mission to Iran attended the event.

Bahram Eynollahi, the Iranian Health Minister presented an overview of research and development activities by universities of medical sciences across the country and the overall state of the health system in Iran.

The meeting mainly focuses on the adverse impact of sanctions on access to essential medical products and technology in this particular region. The meeting will continue until –15 February.

The United Nations Children's Fund's (UNICEF) representative in Iran, in an interview with Iran Press, said that Iran has made a lot of efforts in the health sector.

Robin Nandy stated on the sidelines of the 28th Technical Meeting of the G5 Forum on Women and Family Health: Health goes beyond boundaries and brings countries, especially the neighboring ones together, to look at common challenges to address them.

In 2023, the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of Iran, hosted the G5 High-Level Expert Meeting on Health Cooperation in Tehran attended by G5 member states' representatives to expand collaboration in addressing common challenges and interests in the field of health and well-being. 

The summit discussed 3 thematic sessions, including health system under a primary health care approach, communicable diseases, and cross-border collaboration on mass gatherings.
