South Africa called on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Wednesday for more urgent orders on constraining Israeli regimes and ending widespread starvation in the Gaza Strip.

Iran PressAfrica: The move followed South Africa's earlier allegation in a case to the ICJ over Israel's military operation in Gaza, which it claimed breaches the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, or the Genocide Convention.

Al Jazeera reported on Wednesday night that South Africa’s request to the top UN court at The Hague is aimed at preventing famine in Gaza and ensuring the safety and health of the 2.3 million Palestinians there.

Vincent Magwenya, the official spokesman of the South African president, emphasized the need for urgent actions to ensure that further genocide is prevented in the Gaza Strip, the report said.

In its application, South Africa has warned that Palestinians in Gaza are facing starvation and has asked the court to review and prevent Israel's decision to expand its military operations. It also requested the court to order that all parties cease hostilities and release all hostages and detainees.

Earlier, South Africa's representative at the International Court of Justice accused Israel of not complying with judicial orders and warned that delay in reaching a just solution will lead to an endless cycle of violence. 219
