Iran Press/Iran news: The head of the Coordination Council of Islamic Publicity, Hojjat-ol-Islam Seyyed Mohsen Mahmoudi on Wednesday described the martyrs of 15 Khordad (corresponding to June 5) as the defenders of the Leadership of Islam, defenders of sources of emulation and defenders of religion. The senior cleric also saluted the martyrs of 5 June 1963, describing them as the main source of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and their defence of the Great Founder of the Islamic Revolution, the Late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace).
According to an Iran Press report, Hojjat-ol-Islam Mahmoudi explained further that the martyrs of June 5 uprising do the same as the defenders of the Holy shrine but the difference lies in the fact that the latter do it so respectfully. The head of Coordination Council of Islamic Publicity also reiterated that "the Resistance front and in fact all of the Muslim World which defends the righteous path, is deeply indebted to the blood of these martyrs." While paying tribute to June 5 martyrs, Hojjat-ol-Islam Mahmoudi said: "The martyrs that are buried at this cemetery, we are here to say that you are not dead as it has been promised in the Holy Quran, and this is the beginning. Mahmoudi's remarks came as he was speaking on the event held for 56th anniversary and commemoration of the martyrs of 5 June 1963 Uprising. However, he was not the only speaker at the event.
The Leader' s representative in Islamic Jihad Ministry Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Reza Taghavi, also said that although all of the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution of Iran are equally praised and they are highly respectable however, the martyrs of June 5 Uprising are considered as the leading group of Iranian martyrs and as the Holy Quran has said: "And the forerunners, the forerunners - Those are the ones brought near [to Allah]".
The Iranian people in cities and towns throughout the country, rose in defense of the late Imam Khomeini when he was arrested on 5 June 1963.
Extensive demonstrations and rallies in defense of the Imam shook the Pahlavi regime to its core. The popular protests against the hated Shah's regime led to suppression and arrest of the protesters. The agents of the regime also assaulted the Faiziyeh seminary school in Qom, martyring, injuring and arresting large numbers of people.
The historic June 5 uprising of the Iranian people, was the beginning of the confrontation between the Islamic movement of Iran, and the dictatorial Pahlavi regime, which finally culminated in February 1979, with the triumph of the Islamic Revolution of the Iranian people, led by the late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace). 213/211/203
