Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Riffat Masood stated Islamic republic of Iran's willingness to work closely with the new government of Pakistan and strengthening bilateral relations.
Beside discussing Iran-Pakistan relations with ambassador Masood, President Rouhani highlighted the cultural, religious, historical similarities and commonalities between the two neighbouring countries, according to an IRNA report.
President Rouhani expressed hope that ambassador Masood, with her experience in diplomacy and inter-state relations, would contribute positively in strengthening bilateral relations between Tehran and Islamabad.
Ambassador Masood for her part said that she is confident that the close, historical ties between the governments and peoples of the two countries, with political determination which exists in Tehran and Islamabad, would provide an impetus to bilateral relations that will also augur well for peace and stability in the region.
Masood, after formally presenting her credentials to President Rouhani on Saturday, 2nd February 2019, became Pakistan’s first woman ambassador to Tehran.
As an experienced diplomat and dedicated officer of the Foreign Service in Islamabad, she has served as a diplomat in several countries, including UK, USA, France, Turkey, India and Norway. She is also fluent in Persian or Farsi.
Iran and Pakistan have already agreed to take the volume of their bilateral trade to $5 billion over the next few years.
On Dec 24, 2018, Mohammad Javad Zarif and Shah Mehmood Qureshi held talks about a number of bilateral, regional and international issues in Tehran.
They also underlined the significance of stability, security, and constructive convergence in the region, particularly among Afghans under the current circumstances, and the need for collaboration between the two countries in this area.
