Tehran (IP) - Iran's Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian said in an exclusive interview with Iran Press that recent talks with Afghan officials were fruitful.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian talked about Iran and Afghanistan's recent talks, noting that "Iran and Afghanistan are living in inter-boundary basins. Two major inter-boundary basins comprise of Hirmand in the south East of Iran and the other one Helmand in the northeast of Iran. It’s an opportunity for cooperation between the two countries."

Ardakanian further added, "We are also discussing with Afghanistan counterparts about different projects in transportation and railroad and also the transit of energy as well as the banking system. I had a meeting with President of Afghanistan last year and today with Minister Atmar. We had a chance to follow what we agreed upon last year and we came to the conclusion to organize the next Economic Joint Commission meeting soon in Kabul this year as well as organizing two professional exhibitions for the private sector of Iran. One in Kabul another one in Herat."

"We have defined 20 projects in the electricity sector. It's about building a new power transmission line between Iran and Afghanistan as well as renewing the power industry in Afghanistan and maintenance of equipment damaged during the war in Afghanistan by Iranian companies. So It was a very fruitful discussion," Ardakanian noted at the end of the interview.
