Iranian President has said that the moderate and wise move is to stay within the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and reduce our commitments gradually, so long as other signatories do not honour their commitments.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a speech to a large gathering of people in the city of Rafsanjan on Monday morning, during his tour of Kerman Province.

Commenting on Iran's nuclear agreement with major world powers, President Rouhani said: "We had an agreement with 6 countries, but the US has withdrawn from it. Some told us to leave JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) immediately. Some people said we had to stay in the agreement in any situation, while others suggested that we choose a moderate way."

President Rouhani said that by the end of next year, Iran will achieve a major security and defense goal, which is buying and selling weapons, adding that "Iran has been banned from buying or selling military weaponry for many years by a United Nations resolution."

Rouhani further noted, "According to the nuclear deal and the subsequent Resolution 2231, if we stay within JCPOA, the arms embargo on Iran will be lifted next year and we can easily buy and sell weapons. This is one of the important outcomes of this agreement. That is why we will not withdraw from JCPOA. If we leave, the Security Council sanctions against Iran will come back. Now that it is in our interest to stay in this agreement and others will not meet their commitments, shall we meet our commitments unilaterally? No, this is not possible."

"The moderate way was to stay within JCPOA and reduce our commitments gradually. Today our civilian nuclear industry is in better shape than at any time in the past. In the past, we used to have 5 types of centrifuges; but today we have 19 types. We maintain the agreement, we maintain the rights of the people and do not surrender to the pressure of others," Rouhani added.

In further remarks president Rouhani said the Iranian nation will resist the bullying powers and we will continue our chosen path.

Announcing good news for the people of Kerman province, President Rouhani stressed water from the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf will be desalinated and used for industrial and agricultural purposes, particularly in Kerman and Yazd provinces, and other dry provinces with low rainfall.

He also announced the opening of a science and technology park, bringing hi-tech jobs for young people and university graduates in the city of Rafsanjan. Addressing the people of Rafsanjan, the President said: "Next year, the science and technology park will open in the city of Rafsanjan and many jobs will be created, specially for young people."

President Rouhani also praised the martyrs of Kerman province, in particulalr the late Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and former prime minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar.
