US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday (July 8) met with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono in Tokyo, one day after his latest talks in Pyongyang with North Korean officials.
Pompeo was scheduled to hold joint meetings with Kono as well as South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha later in the day.
North Korea slammed the United States for making "rapacious" demands during critical denuclearisation talks Saturday after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had earlier described them as "productive".
The North's foreign ministry said the "extremely regrettable" US attitude during the meeting violated the spirit of the agreement reached between leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump last month at their historic summit in Singapore.
During a day and a half of talks in Pyongyang, Pompeo had sought to hammer out details on how to dismantle North Korea's nuclear programs, including a timeline.
Pompeo met with the vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong-chol in the last two days, where the duo was engaged in intense deliberations on a timeline to achieve the dismantling of North Korea's nuclear program.
