Lebanon’s newly named prime minister Hassan Diab

Lebanon's new prime minister Hassan Diab said on Thursday that the country needs political and economic stability, social security, the rule of law and national unity.

Iran PressMiddle East: Lebanon’s newly named prime minister said on Thursday he would quickly form a government to pull the country out of economic crisis after winning a majority vote in the Lebanese National Assembly.

"The future government will be in line with the wishes of the Lebanese people to address their concerns," Diab said in a statement, stressing that he would pay attention to what he said would be the people's will.

The new prime minister said, "The country is in the midst of a national crisis and now is not the time for political and personal strife. Peace and unity must be a priority for everyone to come out of the crisis."

Diab, a Sunni figure and former Lebanese minister of higher education, was tasked by 69 members of Lebanese National Assembly to form the cabinet in the next two to three weeks.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun announced on Thursday that he has named the former Minister of Education, Hassan Diab, the new Prime Minister after Saad Hariri stated on Wednesday that he was not seeking the candidacy.
