Tehran (IP) - Ismail Baghaei, spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the holding of the 28th meeting of foreign ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member countries next week in the holy city of Mashhad.

Iran Press/Iran news: Baghaei added that ministers and senior officials of the ECO member countries, along with the directors of regional specialized organizations and the secretaries-general of some multilateral economic organizations, will participate in the meeting, which will be chaired by Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

Referring to the status and role of ECO in expanding economic cooperation between the countries of the region, Baghaei stated: The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is one of the oldest regional economic cooperation arrangements among developing countries, which has the promotion of regional economic development on its agenda, and the Islamic Republic of Iran holds its rotating chairmanship in 2024.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman noted that the ECO ministerial meeting is the second ministerial meeting of an international organization hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the past six months. In July 2024, Iran hosted foreign ministers and senior officials from 33 member countries of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).204
