Military commander, Joseph Aoun was elected as the President of Lebanon with 99 votes in the second round of voting.

Iran Press/West Asia: In the first round of voting held earlier today, none of the candidates managed to secure the two-thirds majority (86 votes) out of the total 128 parliamentary votes.

After counting the votes in the first round, it was revealed that only 71 out of the 128 parliamentarians present voted for Joseph Aoun, the current commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

In the second round of voting, which began on Friday afternoon at 2 PM local time, General Joseph Aoun was elected as the President of Lebanon with 99 affirmative votes.

Opponents of Joseph Aoun’s election, currently the commander of the army, wrote phrases like "Support for Sovereignty and the Constitution" on their ballots, citing objections to what they perceive as a breach of constitutional law.

During the announcement of the results in the first round, one of the parliamentarians wrote down “Joseph Amos bin Farhan,” while another wrote “Yazid bin Farhan,” a reference to the efforts of Amos Hochstein and Yazid bin Farhan to promote Joseph Aoun's presidency.

This marks the fifth time in Lebanon's history that a military commander has ascended to the presidency.
