The Foreign Minister of Russia said that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia will soon complete the comprehensive cooperation agreement signed between Moscow and Tehran.

Iran PressEurope: Speaking to MGIMO University professors and students, Sergey Lavrov said: "In the near future, we should complete the final draft of a new intergovernmental agreement on comprehensive cooperation between Russia and Iran."

He called the draft a symbolic step to be taken between Russia and the Iranian new administration, saying that only the technical details of the agreement are to be examined.

Work on a new major agreement between Moscow and Tehran was announced in September 2022 during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and late President Ebrahim Raisi.

In January, Russia's Foreign Ministry had said a new interstate treaty reflecting the "unprecedented upswing" in Russia-Iran ties was in the final stages of being agreed, and Putin and Raisi were expected to sign it soon.
