Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani criticized European countries’ failure to meet their obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said Europe has not taken any substantial step in this regard.

Iran PressEurope: Speaking at a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic in Belgrade on Tuesday, Larijani pointed to the US administration’s withdrawal from the JCPOA and its moves against Iran and said the Islamic Republic reacts to the bullying attitude and policies of Washington.

Deploring European inaction, Ali Larijani said: "The EU has not taken a fundamental step regarding the nuclear agreement."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani stressed the need to boost economic relations between Iran and Serbia in various areas.

The Serbian premier, for her part, expressed Belgrade’s willingness to boost relations with Tehran in all areas.

She also pointed to the US sanctions against Iran and said her country has experienced such economic sanctions in the past, and therefore will do whatever it can to help the Islamic Republic.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA.

Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to salvage JCPOA after the US withdrawal, but the three EU parties to the deal (France, Britain, and Germany) have failed to ensure Iran’s economic interests.

The EU’s inaction forced Tehran to stop honouring certain commitments to the nuclear deal, but Tehran says the steps that it has taken are reversible, and will be fully committed to the JCPOA if the  Europeans fully uphold their end of the bargain.
