Iran Press/Middle East: Iraqi cleric and politician Qais al Khazali wrote on his Twitter account that the US airstrike assassinated one of Iraq's top military Generals, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis along with top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
He vowed retaliation for the assassination and promised that the Iraqi response will not be lesser than the Iranian response earlier in the day.
"If anything, just be mindful of the situation as it could spur a return to risk aversion," he said.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning 8th January, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that a US airbase in western Iraq has been hit with 'tens of missiles'.
The attack came in response to a US terrorist drone strike ordered by Donald Trump days earlier that martyred the former Commander of Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani. 101/211/219
