The fifth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games officially started in Türkiye's Konya province in a colorful opening ceremony on Tuesday. Iranian team participates in these games with 240 athletes.

Iran PressAsia: The opening ceremony of the games will be officially held today, and Seyedreza Salehi Amiri, the head of the National Olympic Committee, went to Konya to attend the opening ceremony.

More than 4,000 athletes from 56 countries are participating in the tournament, which will end on Aug. 18. Athletes and teams will compete in 24 fields. Türkiye joins the games with 461 athletes in all fields.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inaugurated the games after attending dinner with representatives of the participating nations.

Despite the fact that the official start date of these games has been announced on August 9; however, the competitions started three days ago on Friday, August 6. After three days, the host country is at the top of the medal table with 3 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals, also the Iranian team stands in fifth place with 1 gold and 4 silver medals.

Iranian para-athletes did well at the Fifth Islamic Solidarity Sports Games at the Municipal Stadium in Konya, Turkiye, snatching 1 gold and 2 silver in para-swimming, and 2 silver in ping pong.

Farzaneh Fasihi achieved the runner-up title in the 100-meter event of the 5th edition of the Islamic Countries Solidarity Games while breaking the national record for the second consecutive time in one day. 219
