Iran Press/ Asia: Iranian Judokas Meysam Banitaba and Vahid Jeddi overpowered their opponents and snatched the gold medals on the first day of the competitions in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, on Tuesday.
At 60 kg weight class, Meysam Banitaba defeated rivals from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela to reach the final. He overpowered his Turkish contender in the final match to win the gold medal.
At 73 kg, Vahid Jeddi beat opponents from Mongolia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan. In the final match, he overpowered his Ukrainian rival to grab the gold medal.
The 2022 IBSA Judo World Championships is one of the stages to select qualified judokas and teams to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
On the second day of the competitions, other Iranian judokas such as Omid Ja’fari, Vahid Nouri, and Mohammad-Reza Kheirollahzadeh are due to represent Iran in the contests.
The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Judo World Championships are underway from 8-10 November in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan.
