Iran Press/Europe: Iran's Ebrahim Taherian met with the Bosnian Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic to attend a meeting on the occasion of the anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre.
Appreciating Iran's attention to Bosnia's issues and dispatching an envoy for attending the ceremony of the Srebrenica massacre's anniversary, Turkovic considered the measure the extension of Iran's support for Bosnia's 1990s crises.
Ebrahim Taherian, for his part, submitted Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's invitation to the Bosnian Foreign Minister to visit Iran and highlighted it as a sign of the will of the high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran to develop relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The envoy also stressed the Islamic Republic of Iran's policy of supporting the national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iran's readiness to cooperate with all ethnic groups in the country.
The two sides then exchanged views on developments in the Balkans and South Asian region.
The slaughter of more than 8,000 Muslim Bosniaks, most of the men and boys, by Bosnian Serb forces was commemorated in speeches, prayers, and song, followed by the reburial of victims whose remains were found in mass graves and recently identified through DNA analysis.
The Srebrenica killings were the bloody crescendo of the 1992-95 war in Bosnia, which came after the break-up of Yugoslavia unleashed nationalistic passions and territorial ambitions that set Bosnian Serbs against the country's two other main ethnic factions — Croats and Bosniaks.
The massacre has been declared a genocide by international and national courts. Still, Serb leaders in Bosnia and neighboring Serbia continue to downplay or even deny it despite the irrefutable evidence of what happened.
