Armenia (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister said that during a meeting with his Armenian counterpart the opening of the Armenian general consulate office in Tabriz, northwest of Iran, was agreed on.

Iran PressAsia: In a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan held on Wednesday, Iran's FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the Armenian general consulate office will be opened on the first days of the new year.

Stressing his country's full support for the territorial integrity of Armenia, Amir-Abdollahian said the two countries are moving to deepen their ties and seeking to well implement the agreements reached by the presidents of the two countries during the past two years.

He said that Iran strongly supports sustainable peace in the southern Caucasus region and noted that peace in the region, without the intervention of foreign forces, could bring many benefits to the region's people.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that peace is available as Armenia is moving towards it honestly and with a firm will, while noting that the Azeri FM's comments also indicate the country is moving toward peace which will be established in the early new year.

Amir-Abdollahian also appreciated his counterpart's comments against the Israeli genocide in Palestine.  Iran's FM warned the US to withdraw the support for the Israeli regime if it wanted to graciously abandon the genocide and avoid continuing the defeat they suffered in the October 7 operation.

He said the US had better return home and let the Palestinian people themselves decide their own fate.
