Iran Press/ Iran News: 'Operation Praying Mantis' was the name of the attack on 18 April 1988 by the US Armed Forces within Iranian territorial waters during the Iran–Iraq War.
The 'Operation Praying Mantis' was the largest US naval engagement since World War II. In this operation, 56 Iranian forces were martyred and 2 Americans died (helicopter crash). Attending the event, the head of the Armed Forces Judiciary Organization emphasized: According to the provisions of Iranian law, Iran has the jurisdiction to handle civil lawsuits against foreign governments' terrorist actions.
Ahmad Reza Pourkhaghan stated: The law requiring the government to pursue compensation for damages caused by actions against Iranian nationals or the law to combat human rights violations and the US' adventurous and terrorist actions and the statement of the Supreme National Security Council, all allow us to pursue our rights and lawsuits.
He said that the lawsuit will definitely be filed in the Islamic Republic and in the world, to prove how the US is brutal. We will defend you [the Iranians'] civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights based on the United Nations Charter and Geneva Four Conventions, and will not allow the Iranian martyrs' blood to be forgotten, he noted.
