Iran Press/Europe: Iran has urged the United Nations Security Council to implement comprehensive and effective sanctions against the Israeli government in order to halt its harmful actions in the West Asia region.
Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, conveyed this message during a UN meeting in The Hague that focused on international compliance with the organization's charter.
He emphasized the need for immediate action by the United Nations Security Council to enforce punitive measures outlined in Chapter VII of the charter, which mandates responses to threats to global peace.
Iranian senior diplomat called for all nations to refrain from engaging in economic, military, and arms partnerships with the Israeli government.
Gharibabadi strongly criticized the council’s failure in the face of the regime and its atrocities, citing the catastrophic situation across the Palestinian territories, which was worsening every moment.
“The Security Council has, due to the United States unconditioned support for the Israeli regime, failed to stop the Israeli regime’s war machine,” noted the senior diplomat.
Gharibabadi called for re-establishment of the rule of law and administration of justice concerning the regime towards cessation of its genocidal attacks and occupation.
The statements were made in the context of the Israeli government's ongoing war of genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, as well as a severe escalation of violence against Lebanon during the same period. These actions have resulted in the tragic loss of 44,235 Palestinian lives, predominantly women and children, and the deaths of 3,768 individuals in Lebanon.
Gharibabadi: Don’t politicize OPCW, Take Actions Against Israeli Crimes
Iran's Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabad has called for preventing the efforts to politicize the works of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and urges global actions against the Israeli regime for using banned weapons in its wars on Gaza and Lebanon.
He also denounced the Israeli government's use of chemical weapons and other hazardous substances, such as white phosphorus and depleted uranium, against the vulnerable populations of Palestine and Lebanon. He called upon the head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to conduct a thorough investigation into these actions and implement necessary measures to safeguard the victims.
Gharibabadi urged member states to exert all possible efforts to halt Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian and Lebanese people while reiterating the dangers posed by Israel's chemical weapons arsenal to regional and global peace and security.
He emphasized the importance of achieving universal adherence to the Chemical Weapons Convention. He stressed the international community's responsibility to pressure the Israeli government to join the convention and subject all its chemical facilities to OPCW oversight.
He stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently informed members about the violation of the convention by the United States and its allies. This includes their support for the Israeli regime's secret arsenal of chemical weapons, as well as other weapons prohibited under the convention.
Gharibabadi expressed regret over the United States accusing other countries of diverting public attention from the extensive use of American-made white phosphorus and other prohibited weapons by the Israeli regime against the people of Gaza and Lebanon. He also criticized the repeated use of these weapons by US-backed terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq.
