Iran's representative at an international forum on cybercrime emphasized the necessity for global cooperation to prevent and confront the problem.

Iran Press/Iran news: "Iran's cyber police has established strong relations with Interpol and Europol in 2011 to prevent and confront cybercrimes, conducting research, prosecution of criminals, and protecting social values and legal freedom at an international level,"Kazem Gharibabadi said at the 5th meeting for comprehensive study of the problem of cybercrime in Vienna.

Referring to the measures Iran has taken with regard to cybercrime, Gharibabadi said the media can play a big role in collecting electronic evidence which can be used in prosecution of cyber defendants and cyber criminals, IRNA reported.

Speaking at the international forum on cybercrime held between 27-30 March in Vienna, Gharibabadi said that Iran has enacted laws in 2004 on recognition of electronic evidence as a step towards protecting individual's information.

Cybercrime, or computer-oriented crime, is a crime that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been used in the commission of a crime, or it may be the target.  105/211
