The almost 300 naval personnel are from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and they will be competing in six military disciplines, namely: mine clearance, shooting aerial targets, shooting surface targets, survival at Sea, damage limitation, and maritime rescue and relief operations.
The opening ceremony of the military competition took place at a naval base of the republic of Azerbaijan on Wednesday, attended by senior defence ministry officials, as well as diplomats and ambassadors of other countries taking part in the military games .
A keynote speaker at the opening ceremony was "Karim Valiov" , the deputy defence minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan who said the military competition has a special significance, because it promotes unity and solidarity among the various naval forces taking part, it allows the participants to hone their military skills, and contributes to their combat readiness.
Colonel "Sobhan Bagirov, the second-in-command of the Republic of Azerbaijan's navy , and another speaker at the opening ceremony said: "Strengthening friendship, transferring expertise and experience , and most importantly, maintaining stability and security of the Caspian Sea, as the most important objectives of these military games.
Naval vessels, frigates and destroyers , equipped with missiles and torpedoes , from Russia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, and Republic of Azerbaijan are taking part in this ten-day military competition. The military games got underway on Wednesday 1st August.
