Damascus (IP) - Iran's head of the parliament's national security and foreign policy commission said that the relations between the country and Syria are strategic.

Iran PressMiddle East: The Iranian parliamentary delegation headed by Vahid Jalalzadeh, Chairman of the Commission of National Security and Foreign Policy of the Parliament, met with the members of the Parliament's National Security Commission and the Syrian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group in Damascus.

In the meeting late on Tuesday, Jalalzadeh said the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria are strategic, and Tehran supports the expansion of cooperation with Damascus in various fields.

The Syrian side also emphasized the prominent role of Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani in defeating terrorists and establishing security in Syria.

The members of the Iranian parliamentary delegation already met with the Palestinian groups based in Damascus, as well as Hammouda Sabbagh, the Speaker of the Syrian Parliament. The Iranian parliamentary delegation started a seven-day trip to Syria and Lebanon on Monday and will leave for Beirut after consulting with the Syrian authorities.
