Tehran (IP) – An Iranian naval fleet has left Iran for the Atlantic Ocean for the first time under international maritime law without mooring in other countries' ports.

Iran PressIran News: The Deputy Chief of the Army for Coordination, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, said: "The 77th strategic naval fleet of the Navy, consisting of the 'Sahand' destroyer and the 'Makran' big ship, is present in the Atlantic Ocean for the first time to demonstrate the capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in navigation."

He noted that the fleet is currently in the Atlantic Ocean, traveling 6,000 nautical miles (nearly 12,000 kilometers) after 30 days of navigation.

He pointed out that the presence of the Iranian naval fleets on the high seas is done under international maritime law. This fleet entered the Atlantic Ocean for the first time without mooring in ports of other countries.

"This powerful presence indicates the naval capability and authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran," he underlined.

"When we announced our intention to go to the Atlantic, some countries, including the global arrogance, announced that the navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran could not do that, but in practice, they saw that we did it with authority," he pointed.

Sayyari highlighted that the mission of the strategic navy of the Iranian army is to defend the water borders and protect the resources and interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran at seas.
