Tehran (IP) - Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian will leave Tehran on Wednesday at the head of a high-ranking delegation to Baghdad, which aims to promote economic and political relations among other issues.

This is particularly important given the significant shared social, economic, and political interests between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq.

The meeting between Iranian and Iraqi officials, with their significant cooperation in cultural, religious, and political dimensions, will greatly advance mutual goals.

At the same time, the follow-up of the previous agreements between the two countries, especially in the field of security and border issues in the Kurdistan Region, will be among the plans of the President of Iran.

 

Tehran-Baghdad Continuous Ties

 

Significantly, Masoud Pezeshkian chose Iraq as his first visit, as it sends a strong message to regional and international powers. This visit demonstrates the commitment of both Tehran and Baghdad to strengthen their relations despite efforts by their enemies to undermine their cultural and strategic ties. Such efforts will not weaken their resolve to enhance their relationship.

Bilateral meetings with high Iraqi officials and the signing of cooperation documents and security memorandums are among the plans for this trip. 

Pezeshkian is traveling to Baghdad at the official invitation of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani at the head of a high-ranking delegation.

The Iranian president, during his trip to Iraq, is also scheduled to visit the northern Kurdistan region where he will meet with top officials.
