Iran Press/Iran news: Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday morning to hold talks with the Iranian president on various regional and bilateral issues.
The trip comes in response to one paid by Pezeshkian to Iraq last year, during which he visited the Arab country’s capital Baghdad, the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf, the southern city of Basra, and the country’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region.
This afternoon, during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani, Ayatollah Khamenei appreciated Mr. Al-Sudani’s good actions toward prosperity and security and said, “The more prosperous and secure Iraq is, the better it will be for the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Referring to the good relations between the Iraqi government and the people, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran considered unity and cohesion among Iraq's different religions and ethnicities to be very necessary and important. Addressing Mr. Al-Sudani, he added: "As you stated, the Popular Mobilization Forces are also an important component of Iraqi power, which must be further strengthened and maintained."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution called the presence of American occupation forces in Iraq illegal and contrary to the interests of the Iraqi people and government and emphasized:
There is evidence that the Americans are trying to consolidate and expand their presence in Iraq, and this occupation must be resisted with seriousness.
Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed to the developments in the region, especially the situation in Syria, and emphasized that the role of foreign governments in these issues is quite evident.
In this meeting, which was also attended by Iranian President Pezeshkian, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani expressed his satisfaction with his talks in Tehran and expressed his hope that these talks and agreements reached in Tehran would further expand and deepen relations between the two countries.
The Iraqi Prime Minister listed “the people,” “the Popular Mobilization Forces,” “national unity and cohesion,” and “authority” as components of power in Iraq. Referring to the Zionist regime’s aggression in Gaza and Lebanon, he emphasized: that Iraq’s principled position has been to support the people of Gaza and Lebanon and the resistance in the region.
Al-Sudani also pointed to the developments in Syria and the role of foreigners in these developments and noted: "Iraq’s position has always been to support the will of the Syrian people, preserve the independence and territorial integrity of this country, and form an inclusive government."
