Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations emphasized that there is no issue remaining with the implementation of Iran's safeguards agreements, and this has been confirmed in the latest report of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Iran PressAmerica: The Iranian envoy was speaking at the UN General Assembly plenary meeting on the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for 2021 on Wednesday.

He said that nuclear energy plays a key role in the socioeconomic development of countries.

That’s an issue that has been clearly mentioned in the charter of the IAEA, and obliges the agency to help its member states in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, Iravani added.

He noted that the IAEA’s duty to verify member states’ activities and concerns over nuclear proliferation should not turn into a hurdle in the way of peacefully using nuclear energy as an inalienable right of the member states.

The Iranian envoy also spoke about his country’s cooperation with the IAEA, saying that no issue has remained regarding the safeguards agreement between Tehran and the agency.

He stressed that the IAEA should act as an impartial, independent and professional body, staying away from the control of powers so that all countries can enjoy the technical support of the agency in developing their peaceful nuclear programs.

Also in his remarks, Iravani referred to the 2018 US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and the imposition of sanctions against the Islamic Republic, which he called illegal.

He said that Iran has remained committed to its safeguards’ obligations, and is ready to fully implement the nuclear deal if other parties fulfill their obligations fully.

Iran’s envoy also spoke about the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists by the Zionist regime in the past years, and called on international organizations, including the UN, to condemn the regime’s crimes.

Iravani, meanwhile, blasted the Zionist regime for refusing to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and said that the IAEA should deal with this issue without taking sides.
