Iran Press/Iran news: In a joint statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran stated: "In the final hours of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting on November 22, 2024, under pressure and insistence from three European countries and the United States, and despite the lack of support from nearly half of the member states, a non-consensus resolution concerning Iran's peaceful nuclear program was adopted."
The statement adds: "The fundamental policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been based on constructive interaction with the International Atomic Energy Agency within the framework of the rights and obligations set forth under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement."
The statement adds that since its formation, the 14th administration has focused on continuing and enhancing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, aiming to resolve outstanding issues.
The statement adds that, in line with this fundamental approach, Iran welcomed the visit of the IAEA Director General to Tehran and made the necessary arrangements to facilitate further interactions and ensure the success of the visit.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran noted in their statement: "The visit of the IAEA Director General to Iran, his meetings with high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic, and his tours of the Shahid Dr. Alimohammadi and Shahid Engineer Ahmadi Roshan enrichment complexes have provided a suitable basis for strengthening interactions between Iran and the agency."
Europe, US Push Resolution Against Iran Despite IAEA Visit
The statement adds: "In such circumstances, the three European countries and the United States, which have a long history of reneging on their commitments, including under the JCPOA, and resorting to unjust sanctions and illegal pressures against the Iranian nation, instead of helping to maintain the constructive atmosphere created between Iran and the IAEA, did not even wait for the results of the IAEA Director General's visit. They presented an unjustified and confrontational resolution against Iran at the Board of Governors. This resolution did not receive the support of half of the Board members, indicating their opposition to the political and destructive approach of the resolution's sponsors."
The statement says: "This politically motivated, unrealistic, and destructive approach undermines the positive atmosphere and agreements achieved. Such action, especially at a time when Iran and the IAEA were engaged in constructive interaction, once again proves that the three European countries and the United States are not sincere in their claims of upholding the agency's credibility, and that Iran's nuclear issue is merely a pretext for advancing their illegitimate goals."
Iran Boosts Nuclear Capabilities, Continues IAEA Cooperation
In their statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran emphasized that the competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran had previously announced at various levels that any confrontational actions and misuse of the IAEA Board of Governors to advance illegitimate and political objectives would be met with a reciprocal response from Iran. The specifics of Iran's potential response had also been communicated to the IAEA Director General in advance.
The statement adds: "Accordingly, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has ordered effective measures, including the activation of a significant number of new and advanced centrifuges of various types."
The statement concludes: "It is evident that these measures are undertaken to protect national interests and to further advance the peaceful nuclear industry. They align with the growing national demands and are conducted within the framework of Iran's rights and obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement."
In their statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran stressed that technical and safeguards cooperation with the IAEA will continue as before, within the framework of the Safeguards Agreement.
The statement adds: "In conclusion, it is reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains prepared for constructive engagement with relevant parties, based on international legal principles and standards. The core policy of safeguarding the rights and interests of the Iranian nation, as well as advancing a peaceful and indigenous nuclear program, will persist with steadfast determination."
The resolution proposed by the three European countries—the United Kingdom, France, and Germany—along with the United States, against Iran's peaceful nuclear program, has been approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors.
The resolution, which was approved with 19 votes in favor, 12 abstentions, and 3 votes against, calls on Tehran to take 'necessary and urgent' actions to resolve the alleged safeguards issues. The resolution makes no reference to Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
