Nigeria (IP) - Iran's Ambassador to Nigeria said that in the past two years, the relations between the two countries have been improved and expanded.

Iran PressAfrica: The long-term diplomatic relations of more than 50 years between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Federal Republic of Nigeria have been described as unshakable and both the Middle Eastern giant Iran and Nigeria as North African big country of Africa will continue to have very good relations, cooperation and will advance the existing affairs.

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press in Abuja, Mohammad Ali ‌Bak, Iran's Ambassador to Nigeria said: "In the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the last three years, we have witnessed the growth of economic relations which have now reached to the 150 million Dollars per year."

"It is unprecedented in the economic relations of the two countries, and economic interactions between the countries were 18 million dollars three years ago, which has now reached 150 million dollars and has increased almost 7 times during these years," Mohammad Ali ‌Bak emphasized.

Nigeria, as the first African country, sent a congratulatory message after the election of President Ebrahim Raisi, and a high-ranking political delegation headed by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria was set to Tehran to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the President of Iran.

When asked about Iran's reaction to the 2023 successful general elections in Nigeria, the Iranian Ambassador said: ''The Islamic Republic of Iran has been continuously following the developments of this country long before the presidential elections were held, and after the election of Tinubu as the new president of Nigeria, Raisi as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran sent a congratulatory message to Tinubu."

He further said while congratulating him, the Iranian President announced that there will be no obstacle in the development of relations between the two countries and that Iran is ready to have the necessary cooperation with Tinubu's government at all levels.

This shows the readiness of the two countries to identify their economic capacities and expand their relations, the ambassador stated.
