Senior MP: Iran backs Lebanon stability and security

Tehran(IP) - The Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in a meeting with Lebanese ambassador to Iran referred to Iran's support of Lebanon' stability and security saying Tehran will its support for Lebanon to overcome the recent horrific incident in the port of Beirut.

Iran Press/Iran News: Having attended the Lebanese embassy, Mojtaba Zonnour on Wednesday held meeting with Lebanese Ambassador to Tehran Hassan Mohammad Abbas.

Expressing sympathy and announcing the solidarity of the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the Lebanese government and people, Zonnour extended his condolences to the ambassador, the government, the families of the survivors in the tragic incident of Beirut explosion and the Lebanese resistance movement.

The Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament stated that punishing the perpetrators of this incident will alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people, adding: "The support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the Lebanese government, people and resistance movement in terms of Infrastructure and humanitarianism will continue."

The Lebanese ambassador in Tehran also thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for sending medical aid to Lebanon, noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a friend and brother to the Lebanese people and government.

On August 4, a massive explosion took place in a nearby warehouse in the port of Beirut, containing 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate, following a massive fire in a warehouse that stored flammable stuff.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 171 people have been killed and about 6,000 injured in the blast so far.

The Beirut explosion, however, had a strong political dimension to the point that street protests led to the resignation of Lebanese PM Hassan Diab's cabinet.
